Sanskrit Training
with Leslie Freyberg
Sanskrit, the sacred language of Hinduism is one of the oldest languages known to man. It's unique power of expression and beauty reflect the great importance sound had to the ancient sages. Sanskrit became the cultured language of India. The great philosophical and historical texts were all written in Sanskrit and the sheer volume of Sanskrit literature is immense.
Knowledge of Sanskrit makes it possible to grasp the subtleties of yoga, whose body of teachings are written in Sanskrit. Since ancient times the practice of yoga has included the study of Sanskrit and the chanting of Sanskrit mantras to induce calm and clarity in meditation.
The true essence of the sacred yoga ceremony is captured in our new CD "Chanting with Leslie". By using a unique call and response method, you learn as you experience the magic and mystery of nine of the most beautiful devotional chants of India as sung by Sanskrit scholar Leslie Freyberg.

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend Leslie Freyberg's Sanskrit Training 1 course. If I understand correctly, the course was the first two days of Alison West's teacher training program.
Between Vyaas Houston's system and Leslie's teaching of it, the course was an excellent experience. I can only presume that Leslie's Iyengar teaching background contributed to her clear, concise, interactive, and progressive presentation of the language. No writing or note taking ~ just full immersion in the sounds, how to make the sounds, and visual representations of the sounds. The sample handout that I dropped off for you from Leslie was provided at the end of the course. It is a great takeaway.
Thank you,
Kristine Bell
